Retired from the services of Union Bank of India after completing 35 years, Karunanidhy has a long-standing association with trade union in banking industry as joint secretary of the state unit of Tamilnadu in Union Bank and central executive committee member at the all India level from 1980-90.

Presently the President of All India Union Bank OBC Employees Welfare Association and State Body of Tamilnadu since inception in 1994, G Karunanidhy themed his life on the ideals of Periyar, the great social revolutionary of 20th century, spreading his ideals at every available opportunity throughout the country, to bring a society of equitable social order and harmony and justice.
